Knee Pain
Dr. James D. Fontaine
WHY DOES YOUR KNEE HURT?
A healthy knee is necessary to remain active without pain. Your knees undergo significant stress when you walk, run, cycle and play sports. Knee pain, stiffness, swelling, or a sense of instability are all signs of a knee problem. These can occur from degeneration as you age or from a specific injury. Common knee injuries include meniscus tears, ligament tears (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL), and “wear and tear” resulting in degeneration. When you have a knee injury the tissue becomes inflamed and results in knee pain.
KNEE PAIN TREATMENTS
Common forms of knee pain treatment include physical therapy, medications and cortisone injections. However, these therapies do not treat the underlying cause of the pain. If your knee pain is preventing you from doing the activities you enjoy, or you are tired of dealing with daily pain, then therapies may be the right treatment for you.
