Low Libido
Dr. James D. Fontaine
Although there are multiple causes of low libido (sex drive), it is almost impossible to have good libido if your sex hormones are low, especially testosterone, which is important in both men and women. Psychological issues including depression, stress, and relationship problems can decrease libido as well. On the other hand, a healthy sex life can be beneficial to relationships and decrease stress and depression. Thus, improved libido typically has a positive impact on your life. Even if improved libido is not your primary goal, the hormones that are optimized to help libido, such as testosterone and estradiol, have a variety of other benefits including decreased cardiovascular disease, decreased abdominal fat and decreased risk of dementia.
